Alex  Frondelli

Guitarist/Composer

Biography

Alex Frondelli is a 21 year old guitarist, drummer and educator studying at SUNY Purchase. He began playing guitar at the age of ten and began to pursue music seriously in high school once joining marching band. Under the direction of music educator Bill Katz and world class guitar teacher Steve Salerno, he grew to love Jazz music and made it his main focus. Upon entering the SUNY Purchase Conservatory, his teachers have included Vic Juris, Jon Faddis, John Riley, Peter Malinverni, Ralph Lalama and Gary Smulyan. His playing has been influenced by John Coltrane, Peter Bernstein, Thelonious Monk, Woody Shaw, and most of all, the high energy of the New York jazz jam sessions at clubs such as Smalls, and Mezzrow, Alex strives to maintain his own musical voice and maintain taste, while still supporting the other musicians around him. He feels equally at home playing in a jazz trio as he does playing drums in his indie rock band, and backing pop singers.
